Devlog #2 - Design and Tech Documents


Luís:
I have been working on the Tech Document, which is almost finalized. It highlights our development plan, identifies our game's technological requirements and main features. Finally it maps the features to the experience goals.

Lucas:
In order to make an original game, I compared our ideas of the game to those already existing. I was able to isolate important elements to realize and to draw some inspiration from what is already done. For this I looked at 4 games: Despot's Game, Mount and Blade II, Minecraft Legends and Hero's Hour

Here are the main points I noted for our game:

  • Roguelite gameplay
  • Units can be controlled during battle, whether they are whole battalions or single units
  • The graphic style is pixelated and resembles that of Despot's Game or Hero's Hour
  • The scenario is based on a main character who is more powerful than his troops, which the player controls


Hélio:
I was mostly responsible for work in the Design Document, namely preparing the following:

  • 2 Personas & value of the game for each
  • 2 Play scenarios, one for each persona
  • Rough concept map and gameplay loop flowchart

Aside from the above, I also took the chance to create a throwaway Godot 4 prototype to test different methods of controlling the army units, as this is a fundamental part of the game
